The Spaceflower Show

Originally formed in the mid nineties by brothers and cousins Bong Manansala, Jan Manansala, Kix Manansala, Klentot Qiambao, and Pot Quiambao, doing mostly covers of British NEW WAVE outfits such as The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Cure, The Care, The Wild Swans, Bolshoi, as well as local heroes COCOJAM, THE JERKS AND ETHNIC FACES.
After finishing college, three of the original members left to pursue greener pastures and were replaced by sessionists. But the band, like a cigar left carelessly burning for too long, eventually disbanded in 2000.
A few years later, Bong and Kix reunited and decided to change the band’s name to “THE SPACEFLOWER SHOW” and experimented with a different sound genre, fusing classic jazz, soul, bossanova, mento and calypso (Jamaican style), rocksteady beat, two tone, blues, traditional reggae, bluebeat otherwise known as SKA.
Back to spread the gospel of SKA, The Spaceflower Show is fronted by Bong, whose dangerously good powerful voice matches his outrageous stage antics, and Kix, a well-regarded guitarist (for his ability to handle a range of guitar styles) and arranger. Joining “The Spaceflower Show” are new seeds Jeng Nufable (Rhythm Guitar), Adam Pimpinio (Bass Guitar), Buddha Mina (Drums, Percussions), Wally Darang (Trumpet), Carl Arguelles (Trombone), and Roel Ariola (Alto Saxophone).
The band released an album under their own label which sold well. They also contributed odd tracks for an Indies compilation album.
The Spaceflower Show is currently recording songs for their upcoming album under NO SEAT AFFAIR! RECORDS.
The Spaceflower Show has secured a place in the heart of SKA fans as evidenced by their current ranking as the most exciting act to hit the scene in Baguio. Pretty soon, THE SPACEFLOWER SHOW will earn what they have aimed for: the reputation as one of the best SKA group in the Philippines.
